Bumstead raises serious concerns following passage of Senate spending plan

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Appropriations Minority Vice Chair Jon Bumstead, R-North Muskegon, on Thursday issued the following statement after the Senate’s fiscal year 2024 budget package was passed from the chamber:

“I have some serious concerns about the budgets pushed forward by Senate Democrats. Already struggling Michigan taxpayers cannot afford the unsustainable government growth proposed by this package at the cost of our state’s economic future. Republicans introduced over 170 amendments and have laid out a Roadmap for a Better Michigan in efforts to adjust this dangerous course.

“We have a shared duty to fund the important priorities we have in common, such as investing in education, improving our roads and infrastructure, providing for public safety, and paying down our debts. The people of this state deserve a responsible bipartisan budget that doesn’t gut the state’s historic surplus while the economy continues to slump.”
