Bumstead says no to extreme energy policy shift, heavy-handed mandates

LANSING, Mich.Sen. Jon Bumstead, R-North Muskegon, on Thursday issued the following statement after voting against a partisan plan led by Senate Democrats to radically alter Michigan’s energy policy:

“While encouraging clean and renewable energy production is a worthwhile endeavor, the highly-partisan legislation passed by Senate Democrats is simply too extreme. We have seen from places like California, where heavy-handed bills like these have become law, that residents and businesses are left paying higher rates for a less reliable energy grid. Struggling Michiganders cannot afford the state adding on to the higher costs of living they are already enduring because of historic inflation.

“I believe it is possible to build up an environmentally conscious and reliable energy grid without raising costs on families, seniors, and small businesses or imposing one-size-fits-all mandates. Unfortunately, these big government bills will just create bigger problems for all Michiganders.”
